As my Twitter followers already know, my ongoing show at Natural Elements Salon has brought me the greatest success of my career so far. I am so touched and inspired to see that my work is connecting with its audience!
For anyone who doesn’t know, the show is a series of Chicago-centric collages made from vinyl and reproductions of vintage Chicago maps. The subject matter covers everything from iconic buildings to local sports teams.
As I reported last month, I sold 9 pieces at the opening and received orders to duplicate 4 of the pieces that sold. Since that night, there has been a whirlwind of activity relating to the show — additional sales, additional orders, and brand-new designs to keep filling the gaps on the salon walls.
Over the last two days, I started tallying up all the numbers. So far, I have produced 28 original designs — far more than any other series I have generated. There have been 26 purchases or
orders over the last month. This is exactly the kind of business a freelancer envisions, with consistent sales and restocking.
If you’ve already seen the show, you haven’t seen it in its current form. I have been hanging new work every week — there will be 4 new designs going up this weekend. The series has evolved into something better than it was on Day One.
