New Video!

My new video is all about working in series.  In my opinion, repetition of an idea makes for better art.  I didn’t always feel that way, and I didn’t always work in series.  Find out about the experience that changed my mind….

Episode 5: Art in Series

If this conversation gets your creative juices flowing, register for a workshop I am leading on May 13: Art With a Curveball: Working with Series and Revisions.  We will explore memorable series through art history, such as Van Gogh’s sunflowers and Warhol’s Marilyns.  If you have old and abandoned projects, or just ideas that have you feeling stuck, feel free to bring them in!

  1. Really enjoyed watching the video Dean, these little films are great, it’s like having a tutorial. Totally agree about exploring a theme again and again, you always get something new from it and get deeper into the image, what it can do and what it means to you. You have a lot of skills in your toolbox there, looking forward to linocut, it’s something I fancy trying and I’ve just been admiring some Picasso linocuts the British Library purchased recently; they’re amazing!

    • Thank you for all the positive feedback! Yes, the toolbox is always expanding. Woodburning is a new one for me. I would love to see what you would do with linocut!

Picasso’s linocuts do blow my mind. He often used more than one color, which allowed him to establish great color dynamics. That’s something I have yet to try…. When I do, Picasso will definitely be in my mind as inspiration!
