With last night’s figure drawing session, I tried a looser approach than I have taken in the past.  When I draw with charcoal and conte crayon, I sometimes smooth everything out too much.  Then the subjects start to look like they’re made of plastic.  I definitely prefer the liveliness of a looser rendering.

  1. Wow, was this drawing done in one sitting Dean, it’s beautiful, I love the convincing modelling plus the liveliness of the drawing – perfect!

    • Thanks, Phil! We actually did two sittings, about twenty minutes each. When we came back from a break, I asked the model to replicate the previous pose. She’s darn good at what she does, because she was able to match the pose perfectly.
