I’m gearing up for the return of Art of the Solstice, the third fabulous group show brought to you by NIA! You may recall that we produced a show by the same name on the date of the winter solstice last year. That show was well-attended and resulted in multiple sales and commissions for the artists, so we are essentially re-creating it for the summer solstice, which takes place on June 21st.
The only difference is that most of the artwork that will be available for purchase has been created since last December. For example, I have produced a new pen-and-ink drawing of Our Lady of Ostra Brama (below, right), and a collage version of the same entitled Mother of Mercy (below, left). (Mother of Mercy is the title given to the original Lituanian Icon by Pope Pius XI.)
I have shown a lot of my cut-outs and cut-out collages over the past six months, but I haven’t talked much about how I produce one of these compositions. I decided to rectify that with the following video, which gives you a step-by-step overview of my approach to the versatile art of collage:
A quick word about Art of the Solstice, our summer art market. It takes place at ChiPRC, which is located at 858 N Ashland Ave, Chicago IL 60622. We will be open to the public from 1:00pm to 4:00pm. There will be complimentary champagne and snacks. In addition to myself, the artists showing work will be Terrie Byrne, Natalie Walser and Christina Bosco. Please help us celebrate this most ancient of seasonal holidays with socializing, spirits and sacred art!
